| Description | The poppies are, this year, a bit of a bitter-sweet reminder of war. From next year, poppies will be bought by the RSA (Returned Services Association) from a Chinese factory rather than assembled by the people working at Kilmarnock Industries. These workers have a range of disabilities, and this job was both one of prestige for those involved in it, and one of the main income earners for the workshop. Sad that they won't be able to be such a big part of our New Zealand heritage. |
